Among these uploads is a particularly moving rendition of the famous hymn “Where No One Stands Alone.” Performing seated, with nothing but his guitar, Ben delivers each song with a raw, authentic country style that unmistakably echoes his father’s influence.

“Where No One Stands Alone” has a rich history, tracing its origins back to the 1950s. The hymn, penned by renowned songwriter Thomas Mosie Lister, explores the profound theme of life’s emptiness without the presence of Jesus. Lister’s significant contribution to gospel music has been recognized with inductions into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1976 and the Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 1997. His work continues to resonate deeply within the gospel community.

The hymn first gained widespread attention with its commercial recording by the Statesmen Quartet in 1955. This initial release sparked a wave of covers by prominent Southern Gospel artists, including the Blackwood Bros. Quartet in 1956, The Jordanaires in 1959, and the Cathedral Quartet in 1966. Each rendition brought its unique style to the hymn, further cementing its place in the annals of gospel music history.

“Where No One Stands Alone” also captivated mainstream country artists, leading to its inclusion in numerous albums across the genre. Notable renditions were made by Don Gibson in 1958, Loretta Lynn in 1965, and a collaborative version by Elvis Presley with The Jordanaires and The Imperials Quartet in 1967. The hymn continued to be a favorite, with recordings by Ferlin Husky in 1968, a heartfelt version by Merle Haggard in 1981, and a later adaptation by Alison Krauss and The Cox Family in 1994. This enduring hymn has bridged generations and genres, demonstrating its timeless appeal and profound message.
