Listen : Randy Travis – the unmatched voice in country music. His loss is deeply felt. May he rest in peace

On May 2, 2013, country music legend George Jones was laid to rest at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee. Among the many performers who paid tribute to the late singer was Randy Travis, who sang a moving rendition of “Amazing Grace”. Dressed in a black suit and tie, Travis stood before a crowd of mourners and delivered a heartfelt performance that left many in tears.

Travis, who had been struggling with health issues at the time of Jones’ death, was determined to honor his friend and mentor. In a statement released prior to the funeral, Travis said, “I am very thankful to have been asked to participate in George Jones’ funeral service. It is heartbreaking to think we have lost such a great talent today, but the memories he leaves us with will last forever. My prayers are with Nancy and all of his family and loved ones.”

Travis’ performance of “Amazing Grace” was a fitting tribute to Jones, who was known for his soulful renditions of gospel classics. As Travis sang, images of Jones were displayed on a large screen behind him, reminding fans of the immense impact Jones had on country music and the world at large. Though Travis’ own health struggles would continue in the years following Jones’ funeral, his tribute to his friend and colleague remains a powerful moment in country music history.
